Anyone who has seen OSO would agree with me that it was full of crap, totally nonsense movie. It was merely a mixture of filmy masala, only difference compared to other similar movies (which more often than not fail) it had SRK. Movie was still super hit in India and abroad. SRK was credited with its success.
Anyways it is not the success of OSO attributed to SRK is any reason for my envy towards him. I envy him for different reasons.
In early nineties when he entered the television screens through serial “Fauzi”, he became instant hit. People started talking about him and he was touted to become next big thing in Bollywood. He had not signed a single movie yet he was talked about as the next superstar. So what was different in him that people went gaga over him. Let me put my subject through analysis and find out his attributes that make him so different, and yes the very reasons for my envy towards him.
Be it “Fauzi”, “Chamatkar”, “Dar” or “Bazigaar”, I don't think any critic would rate his performances in these serials/movies as exceptionally good; still they got huge applause from the crowds. What made his performances stand out was the tenacity with which he executed them. He had that sparkle in his eyes that made him darling of movie goers. Thousands who watched him on their television sets and theaters danced, cheered and also wept with him. Wasn’t that sparkle, that tenacity a reflection of his strong determination to succeed, his will to go out against all odds? To me answer is clearly yes and I rate his craving for success the primary reason for his success. I envy SRK for his love for success.
Did you watch the NDTV awards for year 2007-2008? Every who’s who of the country was present on the awards night. SRK was also there. For his work in movie “Shiva” Rajnikanth was given an award. He was called on stage and was asked, whom he considers the best actor of Bollywood. He was instantaneous in the reply, “Amitabh”. Then came the moment that got everyone surprised, SRK stood up and asked, “What one needs to do to become biggest actor in Bollywood?” The question could not have been more direct. To me the question was reflection of a confident man, a man who knows that he will soon be at the top. I envy SRK for his confidence.
When you talk of IPL, one thing which comes to mind is SRK. He owned Kolkatta Knight Riders and he could be seen everywhere cheering his team. I heard that even though his team could not go into semifinals, it made highest earnings in the first season of IPL among all the teams. Initially everyone doubted his abilities to stand his ground against the big business houses in the country but he proved to be more articulate in handling his team in comparison to other big names. He had put lot at stake and now it seems that his risks are paying off. He could have chosen to stick to his normal path and do whatever he does best but he ventured for something different. I envy SRK for his penchant to take risks.
Now IPL fever is over and our evenings are again spent watching prime time shows on television. Even though I have never seen “Kya aap panchvi paas se tej hain” I have heard that it doesn’t enjoy same TRP ratings as some of the other shows hosted by SRK. I have even heard that Amitabh in one of his blogs did mention of the shows failure. When a reporter asked SRK about the show not becoming so popular, he replied that being the star on the show, the onus was on him to attract viewership and failure of the show was in fact his failure. The king was humble in accepting his failures too. We have always read that the successful people even take failures in their stride and hence are better off overcoming them. I envy SRK for ease with which he can accept failures.
To me SRK symbolizes pinnacle of success. I think most of us rate Aamir better actor compared to SRK but the tag of “King” is still undisputable. SRK always wanted the best in his life and nothing less than that. This for me is the important aspect of a successful person to never compromise on his or her dreams and always wish for the highest, the biggest. I quote words from Somerset Maugham which better explain this:”It’s a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it.”
Coming back to OSO, now I feel the movie was destined to be super hit once it had SRK in it.
Hope you like this blog. Sticking to my earlier method, I would again like to declare subject of my next blog, “What is such a big deal about the deal?” Hope to see you again at my blog space.
